Thoughts From The Back Row

Yesterday morning we made it to church – Wes’ first time since he was born. It was sweet to be back! At one point I had to sit in the lobby to nurse him. I couldnt hear the sermon very well. The thought came to mind, “is it worth it to come if I wontContinue reading “Thoughts From The Back Row”

10 Things I Learned This Summer

Recently I went to Emily Freeman’s blog – it had been a while since I last visited it. I found her reflection of the things she learned this summer and her invitation to her readers to also share what they had learned. At first I didn’t think I could come up with an actualContinue reading “10 Things I Learned This Summer”

Instagram

My dear friend @laurenwasher started an important conversation here on Instagram yesterday. Or maybe, she pushed it forward from a different, needed angle. She shared her concern about how we are moving from being inspired by people on Insta to placing our trust in them. I loved her diagnostic questions to consider whether we are being unduly influenced on Instagram.
HELPING OUR KIDS FIGHT FEAR//
COVID CULTURE SHOCK/
"I have been thinking this afternoon what it would look like for you to step back and try to look at the big picture. Right now you are zeroed on how much you want ___________. Every minute that passes  that seems to make that goal farther from you feeds desperation and self pity and all you can see is how hard life is, how unfair this all is. And it is true. It *is* really hard and unfair. But what if you could step back and look at the big picture. Where does your story fit in the bigger story? How does the gospel story give meaning to your story? How does the big story end? If Jesus' life is your life, and your sufferings are his sufferings - how does that impact your perspective? Right now your perspective is as big (or small) as [the thing you want]. But that desire is not ultimate. Christ is. How does that enable you to wait?"
Sometimes we think growing up means our lives will be less messy, or that there will be less struggle, confusion and perplexity... So when we find ourselves as adults dealing with intense suffering, messy lives, brokenness & mystery we think something's wrong.
It's spring!
When you are 5'2" and marry a guy 6'4" tall, your 8 year old starts catching up with you!
A year after the airport closed and all kids were sent home from school, we are once again facing similar restrictions. Our country hit its second wave and the health situation is worse than it ever was. We are back to Friday lockdowns. Schools, parks, mosques, gyms and indoor pools are all closed. We have curfews in place 7 pm - 6 am. Some hospitals are at 100 percent capacity, with hundreds and hundreds of new patients admitted daily.
Snoooooooooow!!!! Ethan tried to make a snowman in his own image, as tall as him.... And he almost succeeded. Though Ethan is waaaaaaay hotter 👌😉 @ethanmerck
